Values:

You At Your Natural Best

Values are not about choosing words that sound impressive. Nor should they be aspirational.

They’re about identifying the behaviours and qualities that consistently show up when you are operating at your natural best.

This exercise is designed to help you uncover what genuinely drives you, not who you think you “should” be.

STEP 1 — Note Down Everything That Resonates

Go through the list fairly quickly and note every value that instinctively stands out to you.

Don’t overthink it.

You will probably end up with anywhere between 15–30 values.

STEP 2 — Narrow It Down to Your Top 10

Now look at your chosen words and ask yourself:

  • Which of these consistently show up when I’m at my best?

  • Which values make me feel energised rather than drained?

  • Which values do I naturally demonstrate, not force?

  • Which values matter most in how I work, lead and build relationships?

  • Which values, when ignored, cause frustration or misalignment?

Now, reduce your list down to 10.

STEP 3 — Narrow It Down to 2–3 Values

This is where the real work happens.

Review your top 10 and ask:

“If I could only keep a few of these, which ones are absolutely fundamental to who I am?”

STEP 4 — Bring Them to Life

A value only matters if it translates into behaviour.

For each core value, ask yourself:

  • What does this look like when I’m living it?

  • How do people experience this in me?

  • What behaviours support this value?

  • What behaviours move me away from it?

  • Where in my work or life am I currently out of alignment?

STEP 5 — Use Your Values as a Compass

Your values are not just personality traits. They are decision-making tools.

When you know your values clearly, they help you:

  • make better career decisions;

  • communicate more effectively;

  • build stronger relationships;

  • identify why certain environments drain you;

  • lead more authentically;

  • and operate more consistently under pressure.
