This week I realised I didn't have an email ready for you!Normally I'd panic a little, stay up too late convincing myself I needed to produce something profound, and then eventually write 1,500 words, across 4 subjects, because "keeping it short" has never been one of my core strengths. Instead, I stopped myself and wondered how many of us confuse constant activity with genuine productivity. Over the past year I've written about imposter syndrome, the 3am club, boundaries, emotional intelligence, business development, difficult conversations, hybrid working and the wonderfully complicated business of being human at work. Different topics. The same message. And more often than not, a comical visual! Most of the things that make us better lawyers, leaders and colleagues aren't new skills waiting to be discovered. They're reminders of things we already know but rarely give ourselves permission to practice consistently. We know we should pause before reacting, ask one more question, listen properly, and stop trying so hard to sound impressive. We know that clients remember how we make them feel long after they've forgotten the perfectly drafted email, and that boundaries aren't selfish—they're what allow us to keep showing up at our best. Trust me on this! None of that’s new. So, here's a simple question to reflect on. If you were to give yourself one piece of advice today, what would it be? Whatever came to mind first, don't overthink it. Start there. Sometimes growth and progress isn't about learning something new.
